We Are All Naked

We are all naked

under our fashions

under our 'style'

We are all naked

under the layers

worn for warmth

worn to enhance

worn for modesty

We are all naked

we were born naked

that is how we were designed

no fur, no feathers, no scales

we chose to cover up

for a myriad of reasons

but we were born naked

we are all naked underneath

*

I can't understand the cry
"they are naked how disgusting,
what if the children see."

We are taught to be ashamed
of our natural state.

There is nothing more natural,
it is the mind that has a problem.

*

We are all naked

we were born naked

that is how we were designed

we are all naked underneath

Yes .that is true..you have said something which is true and which other people normally wont say.But if you say it or not a truth is a truth..Nice way of emphasising what you want to tell.

I agree... no matter what we wear, people can see the naked version of us!

Although I like my people with clothes on,(LOL) I think our nakedness is the equalizer. To know that we are all just human beings..egually human under the trappings that we adorn ourselves with.
That's what I got from your words. I really enjoy your poetry, Susannah.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this everyone, it is much appreciated. This was one of those that slipped through without getting seen at the time of writing and thanks to poetry pantry I was able to give it an airing.

Thanks again. :-)

Yes we are all naked underneath...we clothe ourselves to cover it...we have naked emotions we hide from others for fear they will be turned off.....great job!

Enjoyed this and I liked the strength the repetitions gave the poem. Not battering, but truth-telling.

You have expressed yourself nicely, with simplicity and with sincerity. Very well done.

This is a wonderful poem ... for it states quite simply the truth ... over and over and over, with the hope that someone will hear!

We are all naked underneath...

Wow! I can't tell you how that lines resonates. It becomes more powerful as the poem continues. I fully agree that somehow society has twisted modesty and filth together, forgetting the purity of the naked form.
