Less Is More

I spread myself too thin
put too many ingredients in the pot
forget to remember that less is more

I get caught up in quantity
when quality shines so much brighter
by nature, I amass rather than discern

A single rose can be studied
seen for its individual perfection
twenty is just a bouquet of flowers

My thoughts say why write one
when ten are flowing from your fingers
but who will listen to ten, when one would do . . .

wow, can I sure relate to this lovely piece... one look at my calendar, my waistline and into my weary mind is proof :-)

thanks for this, may I copy and paste for my own personal enjoyment?

its incredible! these have been some of my thoughts in the last few weeks... and it felt weird to see them on the screen... it felt as if the words were straight from my heart!

thanks... for a lovely rose, Susannah.

Well, but ten of yours are ten jewels! This being one of them:)

Ah...this poem really spoke to me, Susannah...you're describing my life! I too have difficulty embracing the lifestyle of less-is-more, although I perfectly agree with the concept. You've put this contradiction beautifully...I particularly like the image of one rose to study closely as opposed to a bunch that becomes anonymous. A simply wonderful poem...:)

Hmm...inspiring indeed....there is more to gain by focusing on less....going for more and more is simply a mess...hmmm...great piece!

Less is more....I often wrestle with this concept. You have distilled it down to its true essence. Love it.

That summarised something I've been exploring recently.. only it was around twenty journal pages to say the same thing. That particular irony sums it up :-)
.....but not as well as your poem!

You hit the nail on the head my dear. So many direction, so many things, so little time. Its a constant battle for me. I really enjoyed the Rose vs Bunch of flowers verse. I need to get back to the single roses.

...but sometimes it's hard to pick one rose and throw the rest away. What if we pick the wrong one?

Selection is difficult!

:)

Though impeccable if done right.

I enjoyed your poem.

Pacze Moj, "...but sometimes it's hard to pick one rose and throw the rest away. What if we pick the wrong one?"

Yes, I understand, I was thinking about honing and refining the 'one' until it was as perfect as could be, before rushing to write ten more. I have trouble choosing between and discarding things once they have been written. :-)

Thanks very much for visiting and for your thoughtful comment.

Good to meet you both.:-)

Lovely poem. It made me think of "The Little Prince" by Antoine de StExupery.
