Handle With Care

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I am bound around with sticky tape marking me fragile

this sturdy parcel of me is not robust, It bends and tears

If I am handled roughly, little things inside me shatter

I'm swaddled in wadding. . . the extra padding helps

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

If I am handled with care, moved gently, not jolted

my tune plays, the ringing charm of me begins to sing

the air becomes light and sparkles, fractured with laughter

the peaceful gliding doves land and feed without danger

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Scattered seed, strewn like confetti a feast on the dark earth

the soft grey feathers of them, a balm that dresses all wounds

dark night swooping, falling in graceful folds around my neck

the tattered, battered, packaging of me falls gentle at my feet

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Oh this is MARVELLOUS! Fabulous idea, well executed........"little things inside me shatter" - yes! and "the ringing charm of me begins to sing" - I adore the peaceful gliding doves feeding without danger. Brilliant. I love every word of this, it is so beautifully expressed.

The title suggest something delicate, and this goes through into the poem. The descriptions also have a lot of imagery. Nice work Susannah.

A poem of vulnerability and inward examination....As always your imagery is beautiful.

I loved this! Are we not all so fragile? One heart-break and we are a million pieces each grieving on its own.. yet, we trust those fragile things in hands of cruelty and then, regret doing it. Once broken, always shattered. :)

People MUST be treated with care, even those who do not LOOK fragile can break. Well expressed poem!

I love the delicacy of the central stanza... in fact the whole poem is feather light. I hope you are packed with plenty of polystyrene, and survive the journey unbroken, Fragile Parcel! LOL
