Once Discovered

When everything had gone

I found I still had myself

the grand continent of me

still existed inside my skin.

I took freedom
in exchange
for possessions

I filled the space

with trees.

I quickly discovered other truths

the infinite possibilities of darkness

that sunlight glinting has its own rewards

and that things remain lost until they are found.

Oh THIS is one powerful poem, Susannah. I so relate to, "when everything had gone I found I still had myself". Been there more than a few times. And, in the end, it is all we come with, and all we leave with. I love this poem!!!!!!! I especially love "I filled the space with trees."

Sherry, I have been there too!

It is an empowering feeling once you understand that everything outside of you are 'extras and add ons' it takes away a lot of fear.

Thanks for visiting, it is always good to see you. x

This is beautiful, Susannah.

(Been there too)

Sometimes the things we leave behind are worth so much less than that we have inside. I travel lightly now, it wasn't always the case. Possessions can be like Jacob Marley's chains, weigh a person down too much.

As you so eloquently state, no one can take "you" from yourself. This is such a poignant piece and I imagine written from sad experience. Stay strong.

Hi Paul, yes I agree that too many possesions can weigh you down. It pays to keep in mind that what is important is carried with you always.

Always good to see you. x

This is indeed a good truth to learn after thinking you have nothing...
