Running softly, soundlessly
across the midnight rooftops
a dozen factory chimneys etched in black
Through the silhouettes of night
my soul goes running
silence masking its footfalls
Far away a ship calls home
its cry echoing
in the murky blackness
A pigeon roosts
on a factory windowsill
its glass reflecting the moon
As my soul goes running
no shadows does it cast
nor reflections are seen
For who will take the time
in the dead of night
to look at midnight rooftops
and notice as my soul goes running

I love this. I can hear the soul's feet, running like a wolf across the midnight rooftops. Awesome, Susannah!!!!
Thanks Sherry. :-)
This one is decades old, while no new inspiration is flowing I thought I would give some old ones an airing!
It is always good to see you. x
A decades old poem? It seemed very 'Here and now' to me ;) An imagination provoking read. Thank you.

Thanks very much Hayden and Yelena. Your comments are much appreciated and it is very nice to meet you both. :-)
Just wonderful! The idea of your soul running quietly on rooftops really resonates and has a feeling of inevitability! Well done.
Thank you Lynda. :-)
It is good to see you!
Beautiful! I love this line - "Far away a ship calls home
its cry echoing." For some reason this poem reminded me of something T.S. Eliot might write.
Thanks very much Emily. :-)
I really like this one, Susannah. I am very much aware of my soul within my Spiritual self and you have given your's such life! Who would have thought. Brilliant!
Thanks very much Renee. :-)
I think I would notice. My soul is out there running too...
Great comment Kim. :-) x
What a beautiful poem. You captured the mystery of night when thoughts have lives of their own. The rooftop images are lovely. I almost wish I didn't sleep like a log every night!
Physically I'm a scaredy cat, but my soul is a seeker and must run, even through the midnight hours. Love this Susannah, it resonates deeply.
