It waxes and wanes, this feeling.
Caught in the quicksand of the moment
Caught in the quicksand of the moment
I am without roots, sucked under,
waving goodbye to all of the comfort
that stifles, and stills.
waving goodbye to all of the comfort
that stifles, and stills.
I long to flow, but safety
cocoons, with all that is known.
cocoons, with all that is known.
It makes placid the wandering spirit,
and adventure is lost, replaced
by a half life, well lived but static.
and adventure is lost, replaced
by a half life, well lived but static.
My wandering, relegated to words,
stiff and black upon the screen.
stiff and black upon the screen.
No ink these days,
for it pours and oozes.
Spontaneous, dangerous.
for it pours and oozes.
Spontaneous, dangerous.
Much better, a stilted black keyboard,
to contain the tapping of my frantic fingers
to contain the tapping of my frantic fingers
that are trying to dream, and forget
that my world is only as small
as I have allowed it to be.
that my world is only as small
as I have allowed it to be.

Wonderful poem...
Surprisingly I was having these thoughts just now...
The first poem I am reading today is yours....so touching....
Wow, this is very profound self-awareness. I love the last lines especially. Good one, Susannah!!!! I expect soon enough your fingers will lift off the keyboard and your spirit will take flight again - such is the way of spirits!!
Yes... only as small, or as large...
ah...! Crossing the desert... it is a beautiful time too...
Wow, that last line is harsh, but hard to argue with.
Things would change. You just need to keep faith. When the time comes, all of us will spread our wings and fly. You will no longer be afraid of the heights :)
Hey!
Really like your style pondering and somewhat restrained. Makes me think of flowing waves...anyway keep it up! I'm a newbie but I'll be back - this is my kind of poetry!
Remember that all of this is feeling, well expressed and imagistic to boot, but still only feelings. And feelings are not facts. Hard to remember at times, but so important and necessary,
Elizabeth
Susannah, a lovely poem and the ending is just superb.

Thanks everyone for your comments, they are much appreciated. :-)
I really like this piece as it is sometimes the way I feel. I can put out so many more words in less time typing than with pen, although I do miss it.
