Sanctuary - poetry prompt #9

This was written for -
the Poetry Blogroll - Poets United
The Thursday Think Tank - Prompt #9
S A N C T U A R Y
My first time writing from a poetry prompt, but the title of this one spoke to me. :-)

*

Behind the facade
the kerb appeal
of outer skin
are many rooms

each has a
wooden door

some lead
to tiny spaces
filled with books

another to a vast hall
where there is dancing

from some
you can hear
the strains
of distant music

or bird song,
or the gentle lapping of waves

some doors are ajar
shedding spangles of light

some are tightly closed
but their handles are
bright and shiny
from use

but, there is one special door

It is painted turquoise
richly decorated with birds
and seashells and sparkling with
pieces of sea tumbled glass

it has a perfect heart shaped keyhole
opened by the little gold key
that hangs from the ribbon
around my neck

it is the door
to the sanctuary

the one
that exists

inside
me

Susannah,

A really delightful read, which ultimately leads into your place of sanctuary.

Is kerb a typo? Don't know what it means although I looked it up. I like the form of your poem and how it leads to your own personal sanctuary. Very well written!

Hi Diane, trying googling 'kerb appeal' perhaps the expression is not used in the US?

Thanks very much for your visit, It's good to meet you. :-)

A FANTASTIC poem! I love it so much! The "many rooms", one "where there is dancing", the sounds of "bird song or gentle lapping of waves". And how beautifully decorated with favorite things is the door to your inner sanctuary. A wonderful poem, I loved every bit of it!!!!!

This is really beautiful. I love that you wrote of the sanctuary within, as mine is there too!

I want to come to this "house" too.
I want to roam every room.
And I want to dance to the music.
And I want to listen to the sound of the waves.. ah, wonderful.

The many rooms I believe is the many moods we display....In the end we can only be our true selves....We return to the sanctuary.
